Ed McGaa has given us an insightful, conscience stirring, spiritual journey into the world of the Oglala Sioux. By recalling personal experiences, explaining sacred ceremonies and mores, and recounting the visions and mythes of his tribe, we get a fuller picture of the indigenous people.

His straight-forward delivery of information with an easy intellectual teaching style kept this reader’s interest from page one to suggested readings at the book’s end.

The author’s deep convictions to his spiritual path and his love of Mother Earth, along with his sharing of knowledge is an inspiration to us all.

He makes you want to walk more gently on this earth and nurture and protect our planet by being better caretakers. Mitakuye oyasin. Ho pilamaya Ed McGaa.

  4. Easy to read and understand. Very “down to earth”. A guide book to preparing the necessary items and tools of the Native culture. Very well written.

  5. this book is very educational as far as a personal account of what it is like to walk the red path in todays society. Gives a background in historical knowledge and where certain beleifs/customs arose from, and actual events that took place. the first couple chapters are more of a history lesson on how the native americans were pushed out of their homelands, and then relates the struggle to keep the traditional beleifs and traditions alive. most of the ceremonial traditions are coverd in great detail so the reader would be able to attend and know what to expect. overall the book was quite refreshing and well written, focused more on a historical versus modern day spin on native american ceremony/traditions.
